Silmar Restaurante, Alvor

A small restaurant near the sea

Located at Rua Marques de Pombal by the Praça Alliança, in the town of Alvor on the seaside of Portugal’s western Algarve, this blue and white two-storey building is a modest, but delightful Art Deco building. It features a parapet with a central massing, and two balconies with triangle motifs.

The parapet is modest gem

This is a small, two storey building in the Portuguese seaside town of Alvor. Alas, only the upper floor maintains the original Art Deco form, in particular the parapet which comes replete with steps, massings and horizontal bars tricked out in blue. Pedro Álvares Cabral was a Portuguese nobleman, military commander, navigator and explorer regarded as the European discoverer of Brazil.

A traditional, orange, ceramic roof sits behind the parapet

The doors and windows look like replacements.

The picturesque seaside town of Alvor in southern Portugal has a number of Art Deco buildings. Though modest in scale they are often quite colourful such as this one with its mix of yellows and greens. The parapet’s green, pleated centre stands out.
